Myopia Management
Home »
Myopia (nearsightedness) is progressing faster in kids today. We offer contact lens and drop-based treatment to slow it down and protect long-term eye health.
What is Myopia?
Myopia is another term for nearsightedness. Once a child starts becoming nearsighted, it typically continues to progress or worsen until approximately age 16. Increasing myopia leads to increased risk of many eye diseases, including retinal detachment, glaucoma, and cataracts.
What can we do?
Here at Central Dakota Eyecare, we practice myopia management by offering treatments with contact lenses and/or eye drops to manage myopia. These treatments may be able to slow down myopia in children to provide better lifelong vision.
We also offer overnight orthokeratology (Ortho-K) treatment using FDA-approved Acuvue Abiliti lenses. Ortho-K is a non-surgical option where your child wears a specially designed contact lens while they sleep, gently reshaping the front of the eye overnight. They remove the lenses in the morning and enjoy clear vision all day — without needing glasses or contacts during waking hours.
What are the potential benefits?
Short term benefits may be better vision and quality of life due to less frequent prescription changes.
Long term benefits may be reducing the risk of lifelong eye health related problems/diseases such as: cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and retinal detachment.
